Root 1 Race 2

After a bleak start to the weekend, we woke up on Sunday to an overcast but dry morning and which eventually provided some sunshine by the end of the day; making for a perfect day of racing at the 2nd instalment of the B1KE Root 1 ‘Grass Roots’ Downhill Race Series.
Taking place at Rogate B1kepark, riders of all ages and skill levels were represented, and as a grass roots level race it was perfect for first-time and younger racers – none of whom disappointed!

The course was challenging but manageable for riders of all abilities with no unavoidable or un-rollable features on track. It provided a variety of technical sections including cambered roots, a new transition between existing tracks, a rock garden, tight turns and a few tabletops to finish.
Despite an ever-changing and testing course, the riders were up for the challenge and the energy at the event was fantastic as ever.

A total of 205 riders entered in the event, with Brendan Fairclough (1st Elite) and Lewis Ranger (2nd Elite) achieving the only sub-minute times of the day at 00:58.797 and 00:59.909, respectively.
Notable riders included crowd favourite Ben Deakin (7th Elite), with a time of 1:02.743; Ben Jones (8th Elite) from the B1ke Loughborough Uni Race Team, with a time of 01:02.890; and Brooke King, who took the win for the Ripper Girls.
Team Mitchell Cycles took 3rd place in Elite thanks to Laurie Tennant’s time of 01:00.434.

A big thank you goes out to all the riders that took part, and congratulations to all riders for their amazing performances.
It was a great day of racing, and everyone involved should be proud of what they accomplished.
Wild Track Photography and Coyote Pictures were on site as the photographers, so riders can relive their amazing performances through the stunning photos that were taken.

In conclusion: the B1ke Root 1 Downhill Race was a huge success, and it was clear that everyone involved had a great time.
The event was a testament to the passion and dedication of the local riding community, and it was great to see riders of all ages and abilities coming together to compete and have fun. With such a successful event, we look forward to the next fixture at Wind Hill B1kepark on 4th June 2023

See you there!
